Meridian Police Investigate Animal Abuse

On November 15, 2016, Meridian Police responded to a report of a subject abusing a dog in the 4900 block of Hannah Blvd.  Residents of the area apartment complex intervened when they witnessed the subject abusing his dog.  The residents cared for the dog (Donuts) until officers arrived and transported the dog to the MSU Veterinary Clinic.  A second dog belonging to the subject was turned over to the Ingham County Animal Control to ensure the dog’s safety.  “Donuts” was later transferred to the Ingham County Animal Control for treatment for a broken leg.
On November 16, 2016, the Ingham County Prosecutor authorized two counts of Animal Cruelty and Attempted Animal Cruelty for Zihao Li.  Li, a twenty-three year old resident of East Lansing, was arraigned before Magistrate Mark Blumer.  A $25,000 Cash or Surety bond was set by Magistrate Blumer.  Zihao Li posted bond and was released from the Ingham County Jail.  A preliminary exam is scheduled for November 22, 2016 at the 55th District Court.
