On Saturday, August 11, 2012 , the Meridian
Township Police Department responded to a missing persons call. The caller reported his daughter and infant grandson
were missing. Upon arrival, officers
found the missing individuals deceased. From a cause yet to be determined, the mother
went unconscious and accidentally smothered the child. The
names of the two victims are 31-year-old Caylen Mae Ottensman and her 6-month-old
son Cian Hoyt Ottensman.
The family is asking the media to respect their
privacy during this time of grief. The Meridian
Township Police Department is releasing the following statement on behalf of
the family:
“This was an accidental death and a tragic
accident. We ask for love and compassion
for all in our community who struggle with the challenges of bipolar disorder.”
