Underage Alcohol Enforcement

Underage Alcohol Enforcement

With high school football season starting and the return of students to Michigan
State University, police departments in Ingham County will be focused on preventing the consumption of alcohol by underage individuals.

During August and September, the Meridian Township Police Department, Ingham County Sheriff's Office, East Lansing Police Department, and Michigan State University Police Department will work together conducting undercover alcohol enforcement throughout Ingham County. Officers will work in plain clothes and travel throughout the county looking for underage drinkers and those who sell or supply alcohol to minors.

Anyone under the age of 21 found in possession of alcohol will receive a citation and may be arrested. Individuals supplying alcohol to minors will also be cited and/or arrested. Liquor establishments that violate the law will be reported to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for possible license sanctions.

These enforcement activities are made possible by a Safe Communities Grant through the Office of Highway Safety and Planning.
